Specialist MSK & Domicillary PhysiotherapistClaire Maythem.jpg

My name is Claire Maytham and I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1998 from the University of Hertfordshire. I am a member of the CSP and HPC. Since qualifying I have gained extensive experience in treating adult medical, surgical, neurological, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal patients both in the NHS and Private settings. For the last 2 years I have been concentrating on developing my musculoskeletal skills and have gained valuable skills in manual therapy, exercise prescription and have gained a qualification in Acupuncture through the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists. I have recently been appointed physiotherapist for Reading Rockets Basketball Academy treating 16-19 year old elite basketball players.

This broad range of experience gained over the last 18 years enables me to treat a wide variety of conditions both in the acute and community settings.  I have recently become aware of the need for patients to be seen in their own home as hospital stays become shorter and community services fewer. For some individuals their physiotherapy needs are better met at home in their own environment. I am passionate about supporting these patients in their home in order to achieve their optimum level of independence, improve management of their condition and their quality of life.

As a former International basketball player I have had first hand experience of the frustrations athletes experience with injuries, but equally I understand these frustrations are not limited to just amateur or professional athletes. Losing your independence following an operation, diagnosis with a medical or neurological disease can effect confidence and self esteem. Our domicillary service aims to address this with patient focused goals and rehabilitation in your own environment.

I have experience I the following area’s;

  • Respiratory diseases e.g pneumonia, bronchiectasis, COPD
  • Cardiac conditions including post operation
  • Falls
  • Reduced mobility post illness/hospital stay

  • post operation eg, abdominal surgery

  • post operative knee and hip replacement
  • Post spinal surgery
  • Fractures following falls/accidents

  • Parkinsons
  • Stroke

This list is by no means exhaustive and Claire would be happy to discuss your case with you.
